Private double sleeping berth, with dinner and breakfast, for $60 each way. It is fantastic to watch Egypt go by in the night and very romantic though the train is a bit 'grubby' but after a bottle of wine (sold on board!) you won't notice!
It is cheaper to book it yourself than through the travel agents in Luxor itself. The train leaves Luxor around 9pm and gets into Cairo at about 7am.

And specify you want to pick your tickets up in Luxor (the office is on Platform 1). You have to pick up/pay for your tickets the day before (sometimes 24 hours).
Fab Turkish restaurant/bistro. Amazing food, veg and non-veg. Great atmosphere, very chilled. Lovely staff. I eat here as often as possible. The moussaka is to die for. The mixed meze is a lovely starter for two or meal for one. I'm getting hungry now just typing about it. Starters are in the region of £5 and mains (evening) under £10 - £15 I think. Most lunch items are around £5. Very reasonable for what you get!

Amazing Italian restaurant, very reasonably priced, very central, amazing fresh food. It’s perfect when you are sick of being ripped off by tourist priced greasy tapas in the centre! It is in the main central shopping district. I went there for three meals in a row. Open every day 12.30pm – 4.30pm; 8pm – 1am.
