    Hotel Entre Vinas

Posted by natinchile 19 July 2010

We stayed at Entre Vinas over Easter 2010 and had the best breakfasts ever, served to us in our room! There's a pool, the courtyard and garden are lovely and it's well located - rural, so you'd need a car, but near vineyards and Santa Cruz itself. The rooms are very well appointed, and the service was really personal.

Although there was a little damage to the main building from the 27/02/2010 earthquake, all the guest rooms, in a newer, separate part, were undamaged and the hotel and vineyards were operating as usual. The little damage to the hotel was due to be repaired by August 2010. I really hope visitors aren't put off coming to Chile and also venturing south of Santiago, because tourism is functioning as normal, and will help recovery. You will be welcomed with open arms!

    Hostal Maria's Casa

Posted by natinchile 19 July 2010

Hostal Maria's Casa is literally Maria's home, and she and her family are extremely good hosts. Maria made us endless cups of tea and coffee, and fed us cake and mulled wine. She loves talking to guests and we had some great chats about La Serena and Chile. The atmosphere is welcoming and it's a great place to meet other travellers. When I was staying there, most travellers were in their twenties, but they often get older guests too, and apparantly, they sometimes get families with young children. The accommodation is quite simple and aimed at backpackers, and there's Wi-Fi and a kitchen, as well as a garden. Maria's family will organise tours for you and give you local tips.
Under 5 minutes from La Serena's bus terminal. Come out of the station and walk up to the traffic lights. Continue straight on. Las Rojas is the next side street on the right. Maria's Casa is about 100m down the road. If you ring, they will come and get you from the station.
