Probably the best place to eat in France, certainly the best place I've ever eaten in my life. A French cousin took me there in 1966 and I can remember every mouthful, starting with the red mullet en croute and ending with the raspberry liqueur. Heaven! Is it still as good? Take me there and I'll tell you.
More recent visitors like the food but not the bill, so don't go unprepared. After your lunch, have a gentle walk round one of the beautiful golden limestone villages, or work off the calories in the hilly Monts-d'Or behind Collonges.

Between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon,Prescott is a perfect place for a break. It's charming and historic, with antique shops, good museums, a brewery/restaurant, and the saloons of old Whisky Row. Try to book the comfortable Tom Mix room at the Hotel Vendome, where the cowboy movie star stayed while making his many silent films featuring Tony, The Wonder Horse. Nearby are lakes and trails galore - we wished we'd had longer to explore it all.

If you are near Courtenay or heading northwards along the east coast of Vancouver Island and you like small, simple rural hostels, then this is a must. Run by the delightful Bonnie, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. You can sit around a camp fire in the evening and if you are lucky like us, a large barred owl might watch you from a neighbouring tree. Black bears come into the garden looking for apples and blackberries, but the five lovely dogs scare them away and will take you for walks along the Comox river, if you are too nervous to head out alone.

A lovely B&B in peaceful surroundings - it has beautiful rooms and welcoming owners who will cook a nice evening meal for you if you don't want to go out to eat.
There are red kites behind the house and the famous dolphins to see in the firth at Fortrose, two miles from the B&B.
