    Hackney Marshes nature reserve

Posted by pickles 24 September 2008

Lurking in the hinterland that is Hack-Hack-Hackney, this little bit of east has most definitely missed out on the regeneration, but it's also missed out on the outlaw years of estates, grime and crime. It's a beautiful spot offering tranquillity amongst the sprawl, where you can stroll along the river, watch the wildlife scuttle by, catch a real odd (but truly unique) pint at the Hope and Anchor, or pick up a fry-up at the cafe opposite Lea Valley Marina. Beautiful, chilled and totally hidden.

    Benirras Beach

Posted by pickles 21 April 2006

Located on the opposite side of the island to San Antonio, Benirras Beach is a great little hangout with a couple of restaurants, a good little ramshackle beach bar and a friendly atmosphere.

On Sunday evenings the place comes alive as all manner of old school hippies, and trustafarians appear out of nowhere. There's beer drinking, drumming and dancing as the sun sets on the horizon.

This is a world away from the San Antonio I experienced on an 18-30's holiday 10 years ago.

And if you're into a bit of stretching, I recommend you check out Ibiza Yoga - totally idyllic and not 'too purist' ;-)

    Bike Morocco

Posted by pickles 12 May 2006

This is a fantastic little mountain biking company that leads independent trips through the high Atlas Mountains.

The main guide has spent years running trips in this area and as such introduces you to little-known single tracks and beautiful vistas - plus, because it's pretty free and easy you may find yourself on a unique little adventure!

They work with independent local tour companies and accommodation consists of traditional Berber-style village houses, meaning that you get a real slice of local life.

The trails are beautiful, the life simple and the experience of breaking away from all the other big-style travel companies is quite irreplaceable.
