    Riesenrad

Posted by richardrj 20 March 2006

No visit to Vienna is complete without a trip out to the funfair at the Prater, to take a ride on the big wheel immortalised in The Third Man. Great views over the city, and a surprisingly untacky tourist experience.

    Belvedere Palace and gardens

Posted by richardrj 20 March 2006

Sumptuous palace housing an unrivalled collection of 20th century art, including key works by the great Viennese triumvirate of Klimt, Schiele and Kokoschka. The gardens are lovely too.

Some of the Klimts (although not The Kiss) have gone now after a court ruled that they should be returned to the artist's family in Los Angeles.

    Schönbrunn

Spectacular palace and gardens. The journey to the top of the hill is rewarded by a fine cafe. The world's oldest zoo is here too, a great place to take the kids.
