    Walking in the Gower

Posted by spiral 11 October 2011

The Gower peninsula has many brilliant walks. Loads of different scenery - woods, dunes, cliffs, beaches, crags, hills, moors - etc. Fantastic veiws from the cliffs. All within a few miles. Also they all seem to be brilliantly catered for with delicious cafes just when you need a hearty snack.

Absolutely beautiful river valley with fantastic walks all along it. The sides of the valley are covered in ancient woodland that is brilliant for walking through. Also Offa's Dyke walk.

    The Nurtons B&B

Posted by spiral 11 October 2010

Really lovely B&B nestled in the Wye Valley up a lane away from the traffic that constantly roars along the main road. Nice big room with spectacular view over the ancient woodland that covers the sides of the valley. Comfortable bed. The supper was delicious and made with vegetables from the garden. Breakfast was a lovely combo of fruits and nuts and welsh cakes. The extensive garden is amazing - acres and acres of flower beds, lawns, potagers, woodland, and orchards - all tended by the owners.

    Malvern Hills

Posted by spiral 22 April 2010

The Malvern Hills are fantastic for a gentle walk with really satisfying veiws. From the tops - which only take about half an hour or so to get to you have a 360 degree panorama for miles and miles. Then you can walk along the ridge as far as you want. Absolutely brilliant - maximum result for minimum effort. Although if you're not used to walking up hill you will also feel like you've had a good work out.

    Como House B&B

Posted by spiral 22 April 2010

Lovely unpretentious B&B in an old school building. The cooked breakfast was great.
In the town centre and very near the hills - you can just walk onto them.
So nice to go somewhere that is neither trying to be flash or twee, just comfortable and interesting.
    Also very reasonable price.

    Rasa Samudra

Posted by spiral 26 May 2009

Absolutely delicious Keralan food served in a delightful way. This branch specialises in vegetarian and seafood and we had the feasts in both and both were fab. By 7pm they were turning people away so best to book or get there early.

Absolutely lovely B&B and not expensive for Venice. It's near to the centre, comfortable, friendly, clean, beautiful and has its own kitchen in the room. We felt really at home and comfortable there.

    Acorn Wholefood Cafe

Posted by spiral 10 April 2007

Acorn is a fantastic cafe. The food is made with love and dedication to the idea that food can be delicious and good for you. They do veggie and non veggie and both are good. Plus superb puddings which are yummy and rich without being over sweet.
We had a fantastic lunch there and then went for a tremendous walk on Long Mynd and decided to take a later train back so that we could sample the puddings with tea. There is also a garden to eat in.

De Grey's tea room and B&B

Posted by spiral 10 April 2007

De Grey's has had tea rooms for decades and that is lovely, but it also now has superb B&B rooms attached.

The room we stayed in was really comfortable and warm. The bathroom was really nice with fantastic shower.

The breakfasts were huge and delicious, both the pastries and the traditional English. It seems very good value - 3 star price, but feels more than that.
