    The Regent Cinema

Posted by unseenrabbit 23 March 2010

At how many multiplexes does the proprietor pause in polishing the brass on the front door to tell you what's on over the next few weeks and discuss possible additions to the programme? That can happen outside the Regent, Marple's 500-seater independent cinema. Not only that, but the Pullman seats are comfortable, with excellent leg-room, and cost a fraction of what you'd pay at a chain. It's relaxed, friendly, local and shows great films. Absolutely brilliant!

    Walking the streets of Manchester

Posted by unseenrabbit 15 September 2009

I've lived near Manchester for over 30 years and I am still excited by the huge range of wonderful architecture in the city. There are some great modern structures (The Bridgewater Hall, Urbis) and a huge range of older municipal and commercial buildings (The Town Hall, The MIdland Hotel). Walk in the centre of the city and everywhere you see interesting details. Best of all is the Royal Exchange, its interior domed, with great marple columns and flashes of gilt, like a huge cathedral to the god, Cotton. And lying within that vast space is the sci-fi structure that is the Royal Exchange Theatre. It's one of the most excitng architectural spaces in the country.
