    Guy Fawkes Inn

Posted by utterinertia 27 April 2008

I would highly recommend the Guy Fawkes Inn in York. Being right beside the Minster, this hotel surely has to have the best location of any in the city. Following recent renovations, the hotel is also now very stylish and, probably more importantly, I found the staff to be friendly.

On the downside, it is not cheap and the hotel does not have its own car park. However, the Guy Fawkes Inn is certainly not the only York hotel to suffer from these problems.

    Diving holidays in Hurghada

Posted by utterinertia 26 April 2008

I know a lot of people in the UK are still nervous about visiting Egyptian resorts, but I'd highly recommend it. Sharm El Sheikh is perhaps the best-known diving town, but it is not the only option. Hurghada is also an excellent place to visit.

The town is growing quickly and is becoming more and more popular from year to year. A lot of building work is also going on in the town and it is becoming a popular area for people looking for property investments. I'd recommend visiting.

Instead of staying in a hotel on Rhodes, I'd suggest renting an apartment. The town of Lindos is particularly pleasant and I recommend a company called Luxury Lindos Villas. Their apartments are very stylish and have their own pools.

    Four High Petergate Hotel

Posted by utterinertia 1 March 2008

As far as I know, this is a new York hotel (at least I've not seen it previously). It's rather small with around 10 rooms, but is extremely comfortable and luxurious. It has the feel of a guest house, rather than a hotel, and also benefits from being right in the centre of town.

La Sella Hotel and Golf Resort

Posted by utterinertia 28 February 2008

La Sella is a really upmarket golf resort on the Costa Blanca. It's at a small place called Jesus Pobre, which is about half-way between Valencia and Alicante. If you're looking for a really luxurious resort that genuinely specialises in golf, then you wouldn't go far wrong with this place.

It's not cheap and it's full of Brits, but the standard of service you receive is second to none. It's got a five-star hotel, holiday apartments, lots of restaurants, and a course that was apparently designed by Olazabal.

    Bowlnfun

Posted by utterinertia 19 February 2008

This bowling alley is rather hidden away, but it's worth finding. Unlike the large chains, it's got a really friendly atmosphere and the people there really know about bowling. It also has a well stocked bar and serves a good pint of Guinness.

The Coach House is a stylish self-catering cottage in the Derbyshire Dales. I went there over Christmas with my wife and two young children, and we enjoyed an excellent holiday. The cottage itself is very cosy and there was lots for us to do in the beautiful surrounding area.

    Himalaya Tandoori Restaurant

Posted by utterinertia 3 January 2008

This is a great little curry restaurant in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh. It's not fancy but the food is excellent. The naan breads in particular are something to behold!

    Monty's Grill

Posted by utterinertia 14 December 2007

Another place I'd recommend in York is Monty's Grill. I also mainly does steak and seafood, but it's not as up-market as Harvilles. I haven't been at the weekend, but apparently their Sunday lunch is particularly good.

    Harvilles Restaurant

Posted by utterinertia 14 December 2007

Harvilles is a steak and fish restaurant in York. I was visiting the city for a business trip this week and found Harvilles by chance. To say the least, I was very impressed!

The restaurant is very stylish (1920s decor) and the food is exceptional. I'd highly recommend it to other business travellers. It has to be one of the best restaurants I've been to outside of London.
