    L'Indochine

Posted by vodkabarbie 16 January 2006

This Vietnamese and Thai restaurant is the perfect setting for a romantic meal. The decor is beautiful and tasteful, the food is absolutely delicious and there is a comprehensive wine list. It is also right in the heart of the old town making a walk there at night really picturesque. What really makes it though is the service, which is personal without being over-attentive; we found it by accident one year and paid another visit 12 months later and were amazed when the staff remembered us. Definitely worth a visit to Amsterdam alone.

    Le Basilic

Posted by vodkabarbie 16 January 2006

Although this restaurant is in an extremely touristy area, it manages to maintain its Parisian identity. The food is delicious with good value prix fixe menus. The interior is really quirky with bric-a-brac all over the walls and teeny tables arranged throughout, and the lighting is lovely.

A good mix of Parisians and tourists inside and friendly, efficient service; unfortunately a bus accident earlier in the weekend had left me with a black eye and my partner with arm in a sling but we got no stares or whispers and were treated very gently. Not too pricy either.

A bonus is a lovely walk up Montmartre afterwards to work off those calories.

33, Rue Lepic (18e arrondissement); just up the road from the Moulin Rouge. If the Moulin is on your left, take the first left up the hill and the road parallel is the Rue Lepic. Turn left again and Le Basilic is on the corner in front of you, where two roads split

    Hotel de Filosoof

Posted by vodkabarbie 16 January 2006

Not only is this three-star hotel in a quiet street within walking distance of everything you could want to see, but each room is also themed after a philosopher or school of philosophy making it an interesting and quirky place to stay. Service is impeccable and prices are pretty reasonable. Just the thing to make your stay in Amsterdam more memorable.
