    Da Gemma

Posted by yabez 21 July 2009

If you go to the Amalfi coast, you must go to Da Gemma. It's a great restaurant serving traditional Italian cuisine. Ask for their recommendations before choosing. Great sea food!

    Pousada Dona Zilah

Posted by yabez 13 January 2009

We stayed in this pousada (guest house/B&B) for three nights in January 2009. It's a charming family run hotel very well located in Sao Paulo (Jardim, near av Paulista). There's a taxi stand right outside and there's shopping and restaurants in walking distance. The staff are friendly and speak English. The restaurant and lounge area are very well kept and they serve a very good breakfast (with homemade mango jam). Our room was clean and had AC. We had a room in the back (#11) which was very quiet. Our friends who were also staying in the pousada didn't have AC and they ended up in a room in the front of the pousada which was not that quiet. I would recommend asking to be in the back.
The pousada is one of the cheapest options in that area so you shouldn’t expect much. For me, what’s important was to have a clean room in a good location (therefore security). But for instance, there’s no shampoo, the shower doesn’t always have hot water and the bed was quite hard.

    Ozumo

Posted by yabez 13 January 2009

I love sushi and I would rate Ozumo as one of my favourite sushi restaurants. It's contemporary Japanese cuisine so I would recommend trying their specials. We asked the waitress to choose for us and we were very happy with the selection. The cocktails are delicious and they have a great selection of sake for those of you who like sake (I don't!).

    GLO Hotel

Posted by yabez 30 December 2008

I stayed at the GLO in July 2007. I went to Helsinki with my husband for a wedding and most of our friends stayed at the Palace Kamp but we decided to stay at its sister hotel, the GLO. It’s next door to the Palace Kamp so probably the best location in Helsinki. Unlike the Palace Kamp, GLO is a modern hotel and we really liked the room: big room, brand new, very stylish and modern for an extremely reasonable price. Breakfast was also included - a big buffet with plenty of food. There’s a Spanish restaurant in the hotel where you can enjoy tapas.

    Visne Suyu and Vodka Visne

Posted by yabez 30 December 2008

My favourite drink in Turkey is Visne Suyu or sour cherry juice. It's so refreshing and tasty. If like me you want to make it a bit more "fun", add some vodka in your juice and enjoy a vodka visne!

    Coffee Parisien

Posted by yabez 30 December 2008

Don't go to the Coffee Parisien if you're looking for a typical French place. It's a diner where you'll have a good American brunch on weekends. They do great eggs benedict, pancakes and burgers.
Several locations in Paris but I prefer the one in St-Germain.

    Café Marly

Posted by yabez 30 December 2008

Amazing place in the Richelieu wing of the Louvre. There's a nice terrace with a view of the Louvre pyramid. Nice cocktails and club sandwich but you go there for the location not really for the food.

Nice place in Montmartre, favourite with locals, not expensive. Try their camembert roasted in honey, it's delicious.

    Chez Janou

Posted by yabez 30 December 2008

Behind place des Vosges, a very nice cozy bistrot. The service can be abrupt and sometimes hectic but the food is very good. Typical French cuisine.

    Le Foundouk

Posted by yabez 29 December 2008

Stylish restaurant with a great mix of Moroccan and European design. A friend of mine booked it for us and we ate on the roof terrace which has great views over Marrakech. There are two menus: one typically Moroccan and the other more fusion International/Moroccan. I had a Moroccan tajine which was extremely tasty.
Reservation is recommended. It's not cheap but it's a romantic place and is also good for small groups.

Crêperie Les Marronniers - Chez Maria

Posted by yabez 29 December 2008

Chez Maria is a great place to eat crepes but it's also known for its raclette. It’s at the bottom of the Chamois lifts in the centre of the village and is decorated with dozens of painted teapots. If there’s a queue, don't give up - the crepes are worth the wait.

    L'Alpette

Posted by yabez 29 December 2008

Best for lunch. It’s on the ski slopes but you don’t have to be a skier to get there as the restaurant runs a shuttle service from the top of Rochebrune. Relax by the fireplace or have lunch on the terrace on sunny days. Great food, nice place but not cheap (but you shouldn’t expect anything to be cheap if you’re going to Megève!)

    Café du Soleil

Posted by yabez 29 December 2008

If you are looking for a typical restaurant in Geneva, you should go to the Café du Soleil. I grew up in Geneva and I always go to Café du Soleil when I’m in town. It’s close to the UN so there are always lot of expats there. It’s the best fondue in town and the staff are extremely friendly. If you don’t like fondue, try the entrecote or the specials. If you’re in Geneva in the summer, they have a great terrace for a dinner al fresco.

    Auberge de la Cote 2000

Posted by yabez 29 December 2008

By far my favourite, if you go to Megeve you must go there for lunch or dinner. Old Savoy farmhouse at the foot of the World Cup slope, excellent food and typical Savoyard atmosphere.
