What appears to be just another medieval church (which has excellent mosaics) sits above a fourth-century church which in turn sits above an even older pagan Temple of Mithras and underground spring. Not for the claustrophobic.

Try to time it so you'll see the rain pouring through the large circular opening in the middle of the dome of this, the best "Roman" building, in Rome.
The ticket is combined with entry for the Palatine, so buy the ticket from the Palatine ticket offices.
